Occupational Health and Safety
Occupational Health and Safety has changed over recent years with the aim of designing out hazards wherever possible.
This will be developed further with the introduction and updates in legal requirements. These changes are likely to re-define the duties of owners, clients and designers with greater emphasis on health and safety at the very early stages of design and project set-up.
The greatest challenge is that client’s being required to appoint a safety advisor in advance to ensure all health and safety specifications have been taken into consideration for a project. This may well be required prior to any design work taking place.
There will still be a requirement to produce a pre-tender health and safety plans, construction phase plans and health and safety files.
Principal and main contractors are required to manage their works, meeting their obligations set out in the legislation.
